OMAHA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
"INVESTING IN PEOPLE AND PROJECTS"
Omaha Economic Development Corporation (OEDC), locally based and locally controlled, works to build healthy and safe neighborhoods in North Omaha. Through the rehabilitation and replacement of nearly 500 housing units, OEDC has demonstrated a strong, proactive track record as well as its capacity to develop projects that have long-lasting benefits for community residents.
OEDC focuses on combating the cycle of physical deterioration which has plagued the North Omaha community since the 1960s. Revitalization projects include the:
I. Kellom Heights Redevelopment Project – a multi phase program to develop a forty acre tract bounded by Cuming Street, 24th Street, North Freeway, and Hamilton Street. The plan called for the development of a model neighborhood community consisting of over 300 housing units and open/recreational space.
II. Ville de Sante Development Program – This multi phase program called for the development of twenty (20) acres in the Ville de Sante subdivision located in North Omaha. The neighborhood design model identified the construction of 178 housing units on site as well as a childcare center, clubhouse and commercial center.
III. Erskine Park – Erskine Park was a $530,000 neighborhood revitalization project. OEDC acquired and rehabilitated 26 single family homes for occupancy by low to moderate income families. OEDC has since sold the properties.
IV. Senior Housing - Recognizing an unmet need for affordable senior housing in North Omaha, OEDC embarked on a journey to implement aging in place facilities in the community.
