OMAHA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
"INVESTING IN PEOPLE AND PROJECTS"
OEDC
Once a thriving entrepreneurial center, the North Omaha community struggled with commercial disinvestment during the latter decades of the twentieth century.  This has left the area with substandard commercial infrastructure.  Vacant commercial parcels dominate the landscape.

As a Nebraska 501(C)(3) non-profit community development corporation, Omaha Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) aligns its vision
for growth with that of the residents and businesses
of North Omaha.  Over its 30 year history, OEDC
COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT
has consistently maintained a strong focus on investing in people and projects which encourage self sufficiency within the community.  The organization’s strategy has been to leverage revitalization resources to achieve positive changes that contribute to social and economic success within North Omaha’s neighborhoods.

To address the historic problems of isolation and disinvestment, OEDC, in partnership with the community, city, non-profits, other Community Development Corporations within its service area as well as several private entities, arranged for nearly $40 million in investments and equity contributions to sponsor revitalization initiatives.

The 23,000 square foot Kellom Heights Shopping Center, developed by OEDC, became the first business anchor in the community in several decades.  The completion of the project signified a new era in North Omaha’s history. The venture has created needed jobs and generated a minimum $1.6 million in taxes through property, payroll, personal income and sales tax revenue.

A second retail center, the Long School Marketplace Commercial Project, is a seven acre development located between North 24th and North 25th Streets, Hamilton to Franklin.  The 60,000 square foot retail/commercial center is a multi-phased project.  This complex will provide a combination of commercial and retail services to the community.  The development stems from OEDC’s partnership with the Long School Neighborhood Association.  OEDC recently received grants totaling $1,000,000 towards the completion
of this project.
